We don’t actually have a working undo yet (which is kind of crazy!).
However, if you enter a text-field and edit this, by accident or choice, you can either commit the change by hitting Enter, clicking outside or the field or by zooming out. Alternatively you can hit “Esc” to cancel the change.

    Thomas WingateThomas Wingate commented  ·

Undo in a multi-user environment is a bit of a challenge: I do something, you do something based on what I just did, and then I decide to undo my action -> What should happen? The risk of undoing other peoples work is obvious so the challenge is to find a robust solution that doesn't create more problems that it causes...
But I really agree, we should put higher priority on this one!

    Tjena Thomas!
Zoomlägena är onekligen lite knasiga i vissa kombinationer av storlek på fönster och upplösning på skärm, vilket resulterar i effekten du upplever. Vi är medvetna om det och kommer förbättra detta i kommande release i Januari.

    Hi Julia!
This does of course make a lot of sense, doesn't it ;) Integration with file/document stores like Dropbox and Drive and web apps like google Docs are things we have had on the road-map for a long time and it's def something we will be doing in the not so distant future.
Our main focus up until now has been on fundamental functionality and we'll keep doing that a bit longer but will gradually start integrating more with other common tools. Slack integration is probably the first thing to do, after that general purpose export, open API for integration and then file/data store integration (Dropbox, etc.)

A question: Do you think users would want to manage access rights to files stored on Drive/Dropbox from within Dreamler or would it be OK if this was taken care of outside of Dreamler?

Custom keyboard shortcuts are on the agenda and coming out soon.

As for the modeling tool not working all that well with a track-pad or Mac mouse: We are aware of this and are testing a prototype internally that will life easier for laptop and magic mouse users. It's pretty promising but does inevitably lead to more mouse-clicks which slows down the flow slightly. The benefits outweigh the drawbacks though. ETA probably mid December. In the interim I would suggest using a 2-button PC style mouse.

Since Dreamler is not a native retina application the OS scales the pixels (depending on settings) to roughly double the size + adds smoothing to some extent. The up-scaling does degrade image quality to some extent but it should not be as bad as in your screenshot.
I think the issue is the version of OS X you are running: The scaling options have improved with 10.10 and 10.11, but I'll have to look closer into this issue together with our Mac developer.

    Thomas WingateThomas Wingate commented  ·

    Hi Barbara!

Unfortunately we do not yet have proper support for "retina" type displays on OS X. It is something that is in the works but it is a bit of a project due to the somewhat complicated way we render text on screen.

But judging from the screen-capture the result is a lot worse than it should look on a retina Mac so something is amiss here. Can you give me some more info on what hardware you are using (model name, year, etc.) and OS version?

Just so I understand you fully:
If a user adds a start-date to an activity, say August the 10th, the date picker (when clicked) for the end-date would default to show August? This to remove some of the frustration of having to skip forwards two months in the picker if the system clock says the current month is June?

    Thomas WingateThomas Wingate commented  ·

OK, makes sense. Added to our issue tracker.

This does of course make a lot of sense and has been in the works for a long time. Probably the first thing we will do to test this is to allow project participants to share parts of, or a whole project as a passive (non-editable) web viewer through a URL. This would allow anyone involved in a project to see their particular part without having to register an account. Good for collaborating with external parties.

This does however imply building an UI to manage active shares and indicators in the Desktop UI that parts of a project has been shared.

Going a step further: It could make sense to allow certain users or groups editing access to only parts of a project through the desktop client. there is however a major risk that this turns into a cluster-fuck of access rights and top-down control and command mentality project…

    Thomas WingateThomas Wingate commented  ·

Something to avoid though is to allow users to create nested structures (i.e. projects within projects) that are hidden from each other. Dreamler is all about communication and understanding on all the interconnected parts. If we allow people to create semi-isolated islands for their planning we very quickly fall into the trap where the local part of the plan appears like it works well because related dependencies and propagation is hidden, but in reality it becomes sub-optimal compared to the whole plan.

In other words, it's easy to be the greatest soccer player in the world if you isolate yourself from the rest of the game. But it wouldn't exactly be great gameplay.

    Hi Paul!

This is something that will be addressed in the upcoming release (end of January):
    - We’ve made a lot of improvement to the way fonts are rendered which will make smaller text legible on when zoomed out.
    - General size, scale and position of things will be improved which further improves legibility.

We’ve also started to build adaptive zoom scaling into our camera, something that will allow users to adjust the scale of screen elements and zoom levels to fit their screen DPI (good for Retina Macs). This will probably be part of the March release.

    Thomas WingateThomas Wingate commented  ·

Hi Paul, Have you tried the latest release to see how things work. Unfortunately we don't have the full range of Mac machines and screens in the office to test on so I'm curious how things behave on a retina screen with the improved font rendering and tweaked zoom steps.

Thinking some more about this we decided to do editable comments on some form in the future.

    Thomas WingateThomas Wingate commented  ·

Are you implying that you are not a user of Dreamler? :P Ofc I ask you questions about how you see things as well as observing and analyzing user behavior to figure out how the things we build are used in practice.

Makes a lot of sense to be able to handle resources as persistent instances, in the same way as we do with project participants today.

This has been in the works for a long time but the prerequisites are library functionality and UI, multi-node manipulation and a decent UI to add/copy/instance such resources on the gameboard using the modeling tool.

There are also a bunch of unanswered questions relating to this. The biggest one probably how to handle alterations to persistent objects and template components being used across multiple projects over time?

    Thomas WingateThomas Wingate commented  ·

"Agile on this" - always are - prototype everything with real users ;)

Slightly more complicated than that as the UI for managing the resources would have to exist in the client (rather than on the web as for the user), but yes, building a rudimentary version of this to test it is pretty high on the prio list.

This is something we have been looking into and it shows some promise. We are currently exploring the concept so please let me know more about how this could work in your context.
